A liner 5 for the cylinder 1 of an injectionmoulding or extrusion machine has longitudinal grooves 8 on its exterior and perforations 9 in these grooves. Plastic material advanced by a plunger 7 (or a screw) passes through the perforations, along the grooves between the liner and the interior of the cylinder, and out through nozzle 3. The liner acts as a filter for large lumps of material, and helps to melt the material by friction of the latter involved in flowing through the perforations.
