PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reliability of the image forming device which has a mass-storage device without decreasing the utilization efficiency. SOLUTION: The image input/output frequency of the image forming device is checked (step 101). When defective place detection start conditions are met and detection becomes ready, a memory area and a system for detecting an unnecessary place are selected according to the contents and kind of an image memory, and a defective place begins to be detected (step 102). The defective place is detected in minimum units of the image memory that a memory controller controls and when no defect is found, defect detection is performed over the entire area of the specified image memory (step 103 and 104); and it is judged whether or not the defective lace detection for the entire specified area is completed (step 105) and when the detection is completed, this operation is finished, but when not the operations of the steps 103 and 104 are repeated. |
