The invention concerns a process for producing pipes, particularly large pipes using the UOE-process, in which the pipes are calibrated stepwise up to half a pipe length using cold expansion after inside and outside welding. At the same time, cold expansion is also used for dressing. The pipe (1) is thereby clamped at the least possible distance from the expander head (2) and the free end of the pipe (9) is flexibly deformed and subsequently the pipe (1) is coldexpanded in the known fashion. The pretension force decreases on its own and, after release of the clamping and the remaining pre-tension, a step-wise shifting of the pipe (1) by the amount of the expander-increment up to half the pipe length occurs, and the process is repeated for the other half of the pipe. In addition, the invention concerns a device for carrying out the process.
