LIGHT GENERATOR AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microminiature light generator which is capable of coupling a semiconductor laser beam to the optical waveguide on an optical waveguide type optical function device with simple optical adjustment and maintaining stable operation characteristics even if a semiconductor laser chip generates heat. SOLUTION: The material of the first part 16A of an L-shaped sub-mount 16 is AlN ceramics and the material of the second part 16B is ZrO2 ceramics. The semiconductor laser chip 1 is fixed onto the sub-mount 16 in such a manner that the light emission region of the active layer 2 of the semiconductor laser chip 1 is aligned to the position apart by 1μm from the reference line C (included in the second surface 16B') of the first surface 16A' on the sub-mount 16. Further, the light of the semiconductor laser chip 1 is coupled to an optical waveguide 10 by adjusting the uniaxial alignment of an optical waveguide type SHG(second harmonic generating) device 9 in the arrow direction on the second surface 16B' of the sub-mount 16.
