PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detector with a large area which reduces back ground counts due to cosmic rays and detectsγ-ray or X-ray by layering by turns plastic scintillator emitting light by the detection of radiation and converter and absorber made of a material over a specific atomic number. SOLUTION: A detection part is assembled by layering in turn plastic scintillator 1 and converter and absorber 2. The scintillator 1 is a radiation detecting material made mainly of polystyrene and the like and can be replaced by other detection material having a function similarly generating fluorescent light by radiation. The converter and absorber 2 has functions to convertγ-ray (or X-ray) to secondary electrons and exhaust to the scintillator 1 and to absorb the secondary electrons transmitted through the scintillator 1, which is desired to be a material with an atomic number over 13 considering to facilitate treatment. The light from the scintillator 1 is processed with a signal processing circuit 5 by way of light transmission path 3 and a photoelectro converter element 4.
