PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the optical communication system for wavelength multiplex transmission in which wavelength fluctuation caused in a transmission station is relaxed so as to reduce the effect of the occurrence of the wavelength fluctuation onto an adjacent optical signal thereby decreasing an operation rising time for transmission changeover. SOLUTION: In the optical communication system where n-sets of transmission stations 3 (n>m) apply wavelength multiplex transmission to a reception station l that is receptible of m-sets of allowable reception wavelength bands λ1 -λm , all of light sources 31 of the n-sets of the transmission stations 3 are driven, m-sets of the transmission stations transmit optical signals by using the m-sets of allowable reception wavelength bands λ1 -λm which are receptible by the reception station 1 and the wavelength bands to be used by the remaining (n-m)-sets of the transmission stations 3 are converted into wave bands not providing wavelength fluctuation to the allowable reception wavelength bands λ1 -λm receptible by the reception station 1. When a station among the m-sets of the transmission stations 3 stops transmission, a transmission station of the remaining (n-m)-sets of the transmission stations 3 makes transmission by using the converted wavelength band in place of the wavelength band having been used by the transmission station 3 stopping its transmission. |
