PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the durability and uniform electrified state of an image carrier and to reduce the time loss accompanying drastic reduction in copying speed and a changing operation, and the occurrence frequency of noise due to the engagement of gears, etc., by changing the engaging position of the image carrier and a recording material carrier. SOLUTION: A photoreceptor drum 1 and a transfer drum 5 of a copying machine are engaged with each other by engaging gears whose gear ratios are integer number times. Out of heat sources installed in the copying machine, the photoreceptor drum 1 incorporating a heater kept at a fixed temp. range of 32-40 deg.C during an image forming operation is used as a specific heat source, to directly measure or indirectly estimate the temp. of the surface of the drum 1. When the power source of a device main body is disconnected and the heater is out of the fixed temp. range, the engagement of the drum 1 with the transfer drum 5 is released. When the surface of the drum 1 reaches the fixed temp. range by the heating of the heater after the power is supplied, the engaging position of the drum 1 with the transfer drum 5 is changed, and then they are engaged. |
