PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excellently recover toner remaining on an intermediate transfer body after a secondary transfer, to increase the number of output sheets in a specified time at the time of consecutively forming images and further, to dispense with a waste toner container attached to the intermediate transfer body. SOLUTION: A temporary recovering member is installed to the intermediate transfer body, its surface is divided into a first part G including an image forming region and a second part H of the other part as a nonimage region, and the surface roughness relations of these recovering member and parts are established to be the first part G < the temporary recovering member < the second part. The secondary transfer for transferring toner images of plural colors onto the intermediate transfer body to a transfer material all together is started, then, the temporary recovering member comes into contact with the first part G and an electric field in the direction of recovering the toner is applied between the recovering member and the intermediate transfer body, to recover the toner remaining after the secondary transfer onto the recovering member. Further, the electric field in the direction of discharging the toner is applied between the recovering member and the intermediate transfer body, so that the recovered toner on the recovering member is discharged to the intermediate transfer body, then, returned to a photoreceptor drum and captured by its cleaning means. |
