<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ultilevel image data transmitter with which multilevel image data can be transmitted after compression encoding with high compressibility, received, suitably decoded and outputted. SOLUTION: A multilevel image data transmitter 1 extends the multi-level image data inputted from an input part 2 into bit planes BP7-BP0 from MSB to LSB and stores them into correspondent storage areas 3a-3h inside a bit plane memory 3. The bit planes BP7-BP5 of high-order three bits in the bit plane memory 3 are successively transferred to a gray coding part 4 for every bit planes BP7-BP5 and made into gray code, afterwards, the bit planes from the high-order bit plane BP7 to the bit plane BP5 are transmitted from a transmission part 7 to the destination after compression encoding is successively performed at an encoding part 5, the bit planes BP4-BP0 of low-order five bits are transferred to a binarizing part 6, binarizecl and transmitted later from the transmission part 7 to the destination after compression encoding is successively performed at the encoding part 5.</p> |
