METHOD AND DEVICE FOR POSITIONING DOUBLE ELEMENT MAGNETORESISTIVE HEAD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely position a MR head and to increase the data capacity of a disk by providing a MR head having two MR elementS adjacent to each other and a controller using thermal response from both of the MR elements. SOLUTION: A magneto-resistive(MR) head 27 is provided with first and second MR elements (not shown) adjacent to each other. A recording medium 24 is installed in a storage device so as to enable relative movements of the MR head 27 and the recording medium 24 and has servo information provided so as to induce thermal response by both of the first and second MR elements. A controller 58 is connected to the MR head 27, controls the relative movement of the MR head 27 and the recording medium 24 according to the thermal response of the first and second MR elements and thereby, surely positions the MR head 27.
