The present invention discloses the improved method for chlorine production from hydrochloric acid aqueous solutions in a membrane electrolysis cell, comprising a cathode compartment equipped with a gas diffusion cathode fed with air or enriched with air or oxygen and a anodal compartment with an anode provided with an electrocatalytic covering for chlorine detachment. Anode compartment is fed with a hydrochloric acid aqueous solution having a maximum concentration of 20 percent and a maximum temperature of 60 degree C, and containing an oxidation compound having a redox potential of at least 0 NHE Volts and preferably 0.3-0.6 NHE Volts. An adequate oxidation compound is trivalent iron in concentration comprised in the range of 100-10,000 ppm. Both cell anodal and cathodic compartments and its internal structures are made of titanium or alloys thereof, such as 0.2 percent of titanium-palladium. Parts made out of titanium in which fissures can be present, are provided with a protective covering based on metals from platinum group, its oxides as such or as mixtures thereof.
