The piston tube (2) of the tensioner is closed at one end by the piston head (1), and at the other end has a piston plate (8) in which a screw (5) engages. A sleeve (6) limiting the movement of the piston is located on the screw. A spring (7) effects the return movement of the piston tube, and when the tensioner is in use the cavity in the area of the spring is pressurised with oil. The piston tube is externally sealed by piston rings (4) and all the cavities are pressurised with oil.
