PURPOSE:To increase the utilization of sodium within an anode container, capacity and working efficiency by specifying the filament diameter of a twisted yarn block resistant to sodium filled for a safety countermeasure and the porosity of the twisted yarn block. CONSTITUTION:In a sodium-sulfur battery in which a twisted yarn block 11 obtained by twisting a large number of filaments 10 resistant to sodium is filled for a safety countermeasure, the diameter of a filament 10 is specified to 0.02-0.5mm and the porosity R of the twisted yarn block 11 is specified to 96% or more. During discharge, sodium is smoothly transferred from an anode container 4 to a solid electrolyte tube 5, and sodium is moved up in the solid electrolyte tube 5 by a capillary action produced by a large number of filaments 10. The utilization of sodium in the anode container and the solid electrolyte tube is increased and the capacity of a battery is also increased. The working efficiency for filling in the solid electrolyte tube is increased. |
