<p>A rechargeable external battery pack (10) for an electrical, battery-operated portable device such as a mobile phone or the like has a built in, miniaturized electric generator (5) which is rotated, via a multiplying gearbox (3, 4), by the operator by means of a small handle or crank (2) built into the battery device. The electric power generated by the generator is used to recharge the main batteries (9) or an intermediate storage component (15, 16) before or during a conversation, or to extend the standby operation of the phone when an electric outlet is not practically available. The intermediate storage component may use a special electrolytic capacitor (16) in parallel with a battery (15) to increase recharge efficiency. The generator (5) is a permanent magnet, alternating current generator and an electronic rectifier (7) is connected between the generator and the load (14). An electronic display device (8) provides information on charge effectiveness and status. <IMAGE></p> |
