Method and apparatus for injecting fuel in an internal combustion piston engine

The method involves injecting fuel into the combustion chamber of engine. During each injection cycle the injection of fuel is completely interrupted and then restarted several times, after which a partial fuel quantity is injected until the entire quantity of fuel specified for the injection cycle has been injected. During the injection cycle the fuel is injected according to a pulse width and/or pulse amplitude modulation method. A controller measures the crankshaft rotation angle and controls an injection device so that the quantity of fuel injected over the cycle is a function of the crankshaft angle.
