PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an coating agent suitable for use in an absorbing layer for a recording material, excellent in transparency, adsorption and water resistance, enabling a bright record having high durability in a water-based ink by blending a specified adsorbing base material with a cross-linking agent and a cross-linking auxiliary. SOLUTION: This coating agent for a recording material is obtained by blending (A) an adsorbing base material comprising a polyvinyl alcohol (e.g. the one having 45-99mol% degree of saponification and 100-3,000 average degree of polymerization), (B) a cross-linking agent such as polyamidoamine- epichlorohydrin and (C) a cross-linking auxiliary such as a resin containing a secondary amino group (e.g. polyethylenimine, a polyamidoamine and polyvinylamine). The respective blending ratios of the components are preferably 50-90wt.% component (A), 5-50wt.% component (B) and 1-10wt.% component (C) expressed in terms of the solid content. |
