PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the durability of a honeycomb structural body under a severe condition while keeping purification performance by reducing the horizontal cross-sectional area of the honeycomb structural body of a honeycomb heater compared to a honeycomb structural body of a catalytic element. SOLUTION: The honeycomb heater 20 is provided with a 1st metallic honeycomb structural body 22 having a 1st partition wall for forming many 1st through-holes and an electrode 28 for supplying current thereto. The 1st honeycomb structural body 22 has a 1st flow-in end face 22s for flow in to the 1st through-holes and a 1st flow-out end face 22t for flow-out. The catalytic element 30 is provided with a 2nd honeycomb structural body 32 having a 2nd partition wall for forming many 2nd through-holes and a catalyst carried thereon. Similarly, the 2nd honeycomb structural body 32 has a 2nd flow-in end face 32s and a 2nd flow-out end face 32t. The horizontal-sectional area of the honeycomb heater 20 is reduced compared to that of the honeycomb structural body 32 of the catalytic element 30 to improve the durability against vibration over a long term. |
