PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a lean burn engine to operate in a lean region of good fuel consumption up to the allowable maximum extent while restricting generation of a torque variation in the lean burn engine on a vehicle where an electric motor is connected to the lean burn engine. SOLUTION: An engine controller 3 for controlling a lean burn engine 1 to operate in the lean range of its air/fuel ratio, and an electric generator/motor controller 4 for controlling an electric generator/motor 2 connected to the engine 1 are provided, and the electric generator/motor controller 4 controls the electric generator/motor 2 so that the torque variation of the engine 1 caused by combustion pressure variation may be restricted when the combustion pressure variation quantity of the engine 1 detected via a pressure sensor 8 for the cylinder inner pressure of the engine 1 or a variation quantity of the crank angular speed of the engine 1 detected via a crank angle sensor 9 exceeds each specified quantity. In the case of this control, the engine controller 3 holds the control to the lean range of the engine 1.
