PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate any feeling of physical disorder, concerning accelerator control during lean burn control. SOLUTION: In the controller for an internal combustion engine in which a throttle opening is set in a preset relation to an accelerator opening which implies the stepping amount of an accelerator pedal, and the air/fuel ratio of the mixture gas can be switched to a lean air/fuel ratio larger than the theoretical air/fuel ratio or rich air/fuel ratio smaller than that, such a means (step 23) for setting the relationship of the throttle opening with the accelerator opening in such a way that the output of the internal combustion engine in relation to the accelerator opening is made approximately equal in the case of lean air/fuel ratio and in the case of theoretical air/fuel ratio or in the case of rich air/fuel ratio. |
