PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively prevent deterioration in purifying rate of exhaust gas by suppressing the generation of HC poisoning due to the chemical adsorption of high b.p. HC components contained in the exhaust gas to cerium oxide. SOLUTION: This exhaust gas purifying catalyst is provided in the exhaust gas system of an engine and produced by providing a catalyst layer 4 containing a catalyst novel metal composed of palladium or the like, cerium oxide having occluding capacity, a zeolite having excellent adsorption of the high b.p. HC components, for example, FAU(faujasite) β type zeolite, MOR(mordenite), LTL(L type zeolite) or MF1(ZSM-5) on a catalyst carrier 2. |
