The present invention provides ethylene dicysteic acid, ethylene dicysteic acid trimer and 2-hydroxypropylenedicysteic acid, and alkali metal, alkaline earth metal and ammonium or substituted ammonium derivatives thereof. The present invention further provides detergent compositions comprising 1-75 % by weight of surfactant, 0-80 % by weight of detergency builder and 0.1-50 % by weight ethylene dicysteic acid, ethylene dicysteic acid trimer or 2-hydroxypropylenedicysteic acid or alkali metal, alkaline earth, ammonium or substituted ammonium salts thereof and mixtures thereof. |
