Suction valve for reciprocating compressor

The compressor cylinder block is covered by a valve plate with ports for the suction and pressure valves. The suction valve comprises a leaf spring clamped at one end between the plate and block, while at the other end is a plug masking the port and joined to it by an intermediate portion (18). The latter is outside the cross-section of the compressor cylinder, while a stop (20-22) for it is formed in the cylinder wall (23) nearest to the clamped end (16) of the valve. To accommodate the valve intermediate portion a recess (5) can be formed in the block face, ending at a ramp (8) sloping towards the cylinder. The ramp can slope at a constant angle, or can become steeper towards the cylinder. Two or more lugs (19) bent over from the clamped portion can fit in openings in the plate or block.
