The projectile, designed for attacking all types of armour and especially armour with active protection, has a main charge (12) situated at the rear, and a smaller charge (10) at the front. The front charge is located adjacent to but to one side of an completely separate from the projectiles's lengthwise axis, so that the axes of the two charges converge at a point in front of the point of impact. The size of the front charge is about a quarter of that of the main rear charge, and it is hollows, producing a jet which is capable of setting off the active armour and perforating steels and light alloys with a small-diameter hole which does not affect the perforating capacity of the main rear charge. Preferably, the front charge is able to pierce the active armour without setting it off, allowing the jet from the main charge to pass through the armour, also without detonating it. |
