A backing box for a switch or socket has an insert with fastening claws ending in points around the outside. These lie against the walls of the box. The claws (6) are in the direction of the opening. They can be moved or deformed elastically at right angles to the walls. The points of different claws, when unstressed, are spaced apart from each other by more than the width of the box (4). The claws are made of spring steel. A springy element presses them against the walls. The claws are released by a tool when the insert is pushed into the box. The claws are at the ends of tabs (10), both being one-piece items.
