The drive unit is for processing large sheets in several stages. It includes several press rams with at least one transmission unit (1,2) on traverses (3-5) running across the passage direction on the press stands. There is at least one drive motor with press coupling (17,18). The drive unit consists of at least two transmission units (1,2) resting parallel to each other in the passage direction on the traverses. The transmission units are connected to each other by two connecting shafts (14,15), each with a shaft coupling (16).
