Roof rack for passenger car

The roof rack has a rail assembly (8) which is mounted at least to one vehicle front side until nearly about the height of the edge of the vehicle bodywork edge (5) and fixed to the bodywork skin and guided for lowering and extension movement. The base carrier (7) has sliding guides movable through the length of the rail assembly. the base carrier has a stop assembly for fixing of the base carrier in a defined position. The rail assembly can be at least partially recessed into the outer bodywork skin (2-4).
