The subject of the present invention is the preparation of carboxylic acids or of the corresponding esters by reaction of carbon monoxide with at least one reactant chosen from alcohols, alkyl or aryl halides, ethers or esters, in the presence of a catalytic system comprising at least one rhodium compound, at least one iridium compound or at least one compound of these two metals and at least one halogenated promoter.
