Flow rate of a fluid is controlled in reaction to an electric signal in an air control valve with an excitation coil on a coil body (51) with cover plate (53) and a yoke (54) which partly covers the outer end of the coil body and an outer circumferential section of the coil, forming a magnetic circuit. A fixed core (56) fitting in the coil body is fastened to the plate and a movable core (57) is axially movable in the coil body, having a valve body (72) fastened on it via a spring (73). A return spring (63) is mounted between the movable core and a spring adjuster (60, 61) on the fixed core. The valve body and a valve seat (70) in a housing (71), between air inlet (67) and outlet (68) openings, form a valve. The inside diameter section of the coil body acts as guide for axial mounted of the movable core. Coil body is of either polyphenylene sulphide resin or phenolic resin and the valve seat is of a polyphenylene sulphide resin reinforced by titanate-potassium fibres.
