<p>A clothing protector assembly (34) protects a passenger's clothes from debries on an automobile door sill (18) by preventing the clothes from brushing against an exterior body surface (12) of the sill (18) during entry and exit. The assembly (34) includes a guard (36) automatically moved by an actuator (44). The actuator (44) includes a base (38) fixedly mounted to the sill (18), a pair of sliders (50, 52) slidably mounted on the base (38), and an array of springs (48) which urge the sliders (50, 52) apart. Cam followers (68) on the sliders (50, 52) interact with cam slots (70) on the guard (36) to extend the guard (36) as the springs (48) slide the sliders (50, 52) apart. The door (20) when closing pushes the guard (36) back to a retracted position, forcing the sliders (50, 52) together and compressing the springs (48). Opening the door (20) releases the guard (36) which is automatically pushed into an extended position to hold away clothes by the expanding springs (48) pushing the sliders (50, 52) apart.</p> |
