The system has a sonic transmitter and receiving system and is designed as a cylindrical sonic converter (1). The fluid (2) is received in the inner chamber of the converter. The fluid transmits sonic waves in the fluid and additionally receives the sonic waves again. The electrical signals produced by the transmitting circuit are converted into sonic waves, and an evaluation unit determines the acoustic values, on the basis of the electrical signals received. The sonic converter (1) transmits and receives a pulse shaped sonic signal. The evaluation circuit (5) determines the acoustic values, depending on the transmit time and/or the amplitude or its alteration.
