DEVICE AND METHOD FOR DECODING ENCODING BIT STREAM, BIT STREAM SUPPLIER AND DEVICE FOR VARIABLE LENGTH DECODER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reliability of a video display system for decoding a bit stream containing encoding video data. SOLUTION: A variable length decoder contains a bit stream supplier 200 connected to a header analyzer 300 and a block data decoder 400 connected to the supplier. The header analyzer detects the start code of an MPEG header layer and decodes the parameter of the MPEG layer contained in the encoding bit stream and the quantization coefficient of 8×8 picture element data converted into 64 DCT coefficients. The block data decoder contains a code list for decoding 64 coefficients in size block arrays based on the binary pattern of the number of bits, which is previously decided in the bit stream. The six block layers are decoded in 384 clock cycle.
