PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of terminals used in a charge transfer device by forming the transfer clock of the device in a single phase instead of the conventional two phases and, at the same time, to reduce the power consumption, heat generation, and unnecessary radiation of the device. SOLUTION: Three sets of electrodes 14, 15, and 16 are alternately and repeatedly arranged above an N-type channel (transfer channel) 13 and a prescribed DC bias voltage is applied across the electrode sets 14 from a DC power source 18. A single-phase transfer clock Hp given from the outside of a charge transfer device is supplied as it is to one 16 of the remaining two sets of electrodes 15 and 16 and another transfer clock Hϕ' which is obtained by delaying the clock H by a prescribed period of time at a delay circuit 21 is supplied to the other electrode 15.
