PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a load change in a paper feed operation when a recording head is resumed to be sucked, by allowing capping of all of a plurality of recording heads even in the middle of recording and also selective suction for an optional recording head, and reducing the consuming amount of ink. SOLUTION: This apparatus is provided with protecting caps 31C, 31M, 31Y for preventing a discharge opening from being dried, a suction cap 41 for sucking ink through the discharge opening, and a suction pump for generating a negative pressure in the suction cap. The protecting caps are driven by a driving force from a main scanning system, and the suction cap is driven by a driving force of a paper feed driving system in an opposite direction to that at the normal operating time. |
