PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide stable NOx decomposition activity and remove nitrogen oxides in exhaust gas by bringing a catalyst with high specific surface area consisting of rare earth phosphate into contact with the exhaust gas under a specific temp. condition. SOLUTION: Organic high polymer particulates carrying Pd are suspended in rare earth metal salt and hydrophosphite aqueous solution, treated at 30-90 deg.C, and sintered to produce the catalyst. The catalyst consisting of the rare earth phosphate is brought into contact with the gas containing nitrogen oxides under the condition of 250-900 deg.C. Thus, the catalyst has a stable decomposition activity. The catalyst can be used as a selective contact reduction catalyst for treating exhaust gas from such as boiler and gas turbine, and besides as a denitrification catalyst for diesel engine and lean combustion engine, etc. |
