PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject medicine containing a specific compound of macrollde antibiotic and a specific compound of peptic ulcer therapeutic medicine and useful for hepatic encephalopathy which can not be treated with aminoglycoside antibiotics. SOLUTION: This medicine for treating hepatic encephalopathy contains the combination of clarithromycin and omeprazole. Since the simultaneous use of the two compounds lowers the concentration of ammonia in the blood of a patient infected by Hericobacter pylori, the medicine is useful for treating and preventing the hepatic encephalopathy. The effective daily dose of the clarithromycin is 200-1500mg, preferably 400-800mg, for a healthy adult. The effective daily dose of the omeprazole is 10-60mg, preferably 20-40mg, for a healthy adult. The clarithromycin and the omeprozole are preferably compounded in a weight ratio of 1:0.1 to 1:0.025. |
