PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an additive which, by virtue of a solution to problems of the prior art, can be incorporated during polynm. of an unsatd. polyester resin into the molecule and consequently can impart high hydrolysis resistance to the unsatd. polyester resin and to provide a method for stabilizing an unsatd. polyester resin against hydrolysis using this additive. SOLUTION: This additive for an unsatd. polyester resin is composed mainly of a carbodiimide compd. comprising a portion, derived from m-isopropenyl-α,α- dimethylbenzyl isocyanate, represented by the formula and having in its molecule a double bond and at least one carbodiimide group. The method for stabilizing an unsatd. polyester resin comprises polymerizing and incorporating a carbodiimide compd. comprising a portion, derived from m-isopropenyl-α,α- dimethylbenzyl isocyanate, represented by the formula and having in its molecule a double bond and at least one carbodiimide group into the molecule of an unsatd. polyester resin.
