The system consists of interlocking pieces (8, 8') designed to build an object of a predetermined volume. Each piece is made from two layers of material - a backing layer (2) and an outer layer (3), with the backing layer having elongated slots in two sections - one opening on the layer's outer surface and the other in one of its edges. Each piece also has locking members (12, 13) which are inserted through the slots in one piece and into aligned holes (14) in adjacent pieces to fix the interlocked pieces together. Each of the pieces has at least two of the two-section slots in it which have axes forming an angle of more than zero degrees between them, and both layers of the pieces are made from materials selected from thermoplastic, cardboard and wood. Each locking member is in the shape of an L-section key.
