The proposed system achieves a simplification in the transmission of motion to the wheels of electrically driven vehicles since the mechanical differential is replaced by wound rotor induction motors 18, 19, one for each driven wheel. The system includes two multiphase induction motors with wound rotors which are linked together 10, 11, 12 so that the power developed by one is given to the other. The motors are supplied by variable frequency sources. The electric differential has the ability to turn the driving wheels at a controlled speed, in the forward and backward direction, as well as automatically distributing the speed of rotation between the wheels when the vehicle is moving on a curved path. The speed of rotation of the motors and the speed of the vehicle are determined by the difference in the frequency of the power supplies of the motors. When the vehicle is moving on a curved path, the distribution of speeds of rotation of the motors is achieved automatically by supplying one motor from the power developed by the other so as to avoid slippage of the wheels on the road surface. |
