The mixer, e.g. for a powdered or granulated material and a liquid used in making a detergent compound, consists of a chamber (1) mounted on a weighing system (2), with a auger conveyor (3) which is connected by its outlet to the upper end of the chamber (1) so it applies no weight to it. The outlet end of the conveyor is situated above an aperture in th top of the chamber and lying flush with it, and it is held up by a support (13) which is independent of the chamber. The conveyor pipe is supple and spirals round the chamber, and the weighing system comprises three equally-spaced stress gauges beneath its base. A control device (19) receives a signal from th weighing system to stop the auger conveyor and/or open a valve (15) once a certain weight is reached.
