Mains-independent radio receiver with continuous standby capability

The receiver has a radio signal receiver circuit (4), a digital control circuit (6) for intermittent periodic activation of the receiver circuit to reduce power consumption, an electric power supply (8) and a potential transformer circuit (10) which converts the supply voltage into a defined voltage for supplying the receiver and control circuits. The potential transformer circuit is switched-on and -off by the control circuit. The receiver also contains a rechargeable battery (12), which is charged by the transformer circuit, to supply the receiver and control circuits when the transformer circuit is switched-off by the control circuit and the receiver circuit is switched-on.
