Longitudinal cutting machine with positioning device for driven lower knife

The longitudinal cutting machine has an upper knife arrangement and a lower knife (12) which can slide on a lower knife (11). A positioning device is provided for the upper and lower knives whereby the lower knife positioner has a sliding carriage (14) on a linear guide (13) which is fixed parallel at a distance from the lower knife shaft. The lower knife shaft drives the lower knife and in order to slide it and rotate it during the cutting operation is provided with a free running coupling (19) which engages the knife with the shaft.
