A method of performing an oxidation reaction in liquid phase which comprises contacting a reactant in the liquid phase with a gaseous source of oxygen in the presence of a metallic oxidation reaction catalyst embedded in a polymeric matrix to provide an oxidation product of the reactant, also a method for regenerating deactivated metallic oxidation reaction catalyst which comprises treating the catalyst in oxidizing acid to remove absorbed poisons, said acid treatment resulting in at least partial oxidation of the metallic catalyst, and subjecting the acid treated catalyst to a reducing agent.
