A window covering and lighting system (10) for a window (13) in a room. The system includes a remote control unit (14) providing a signal selectively to at least one operator (41) which is responsive to the signal. A light sensor for sensing ambient light conditions in the room and motion detector for detecting the occupancy within the room is also present. A programmable logic control unit (29) is responsive to the ambient light conditions and the detected occupancy to operate the operator.
