An automatic metering and filling machine, in particular for handling amounts of animal semen and filling a receptacle having any diameter and made of any material (e.g., straws, glass or plastic catheters, all kinds of bottles, etc.). The device is mainly designed for the artificial insemination of poultry species such as turkeys, but nevertheless has a wide variety of possible applications. When a numerically controlled peristaltic cassette (12) is used (as described, in particular, in European Patent no. 811 042 142 to MALBEC), the device substantially enables small volumes of fluid to be dispensed with maximum accuracy and, e.g., very high artificial insemination rates. The device is particularly suitable for use in farms and research laboratories for accurately and quickly metering any fluid.
