Waste gas evaporative cooling apparatus for off-gas cooling or treatment in steel industry

Apparatus for off-gas cooling in evaporative coolers includes two separate nozzle systems with different pressure stages for producing different droplet spectra in the coolers, the apparatus being controlled so that the nozzle system with the finer droplet spectrum is used for start-up and shut-down and for regulating load peaks and the nozzle system with the coarser droplet spectrum is switched on only after reaching a certain apparatus throughput or off-gas temperature. Preferably, the finer droplet spectrum nozzle system employs two-component nozzles fed with compressed air or steam as propellant and the coarser droplet spectrum nozzle system employs one-component nozzles without propellant.
