Protecting molten metal in a tilting casting channel

In the method of protecting a molten metal pool in a tilting casting channel (1) against air oxidation, the molten metal is fed to the channel (1) through an inlet and after reaching a given level is poured into a mould through outlet openings (5) by tilting of the channel (1). The channel (1) is closed by a cover (8) and the molten metal surface (10) flooded with an inert protective gas (7) to exclude air. Appropriate apparatus is also claimed.
