PLEXIFILAMENTARY STRAND OF BLENDED POLYMERS

A plexifilamentary fiber strand material is provided comprising a three-dimensional integral plexus of fibrous elements substantially aligned with the strand axis, in which the fibrous elements are each comprised of first, second and third synthetic, organic polymers. Preferably, the second and third polymers are each dispersed throughout the first polymer, and the first, second and third polymers each consist essentially of a polymer that in its molten state is immiscible in the molten state of either of the other two of the polymers. Each of the polymers comprises between 1 % and 98 % by weight of said fibrous elements. The polymers in the fibers are preferably selected from polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene vinyl alcohol, nylon, and copolymers of methacrylic acid.
