Method of producing aluminium (alloys) electrolytically

Aluminium (alloys) is produced by preparing a granular starting material of aluminium oxide containing silicic acid, titanic acid and iron. This starting material has the following composition in weight %:- 85-95 Al203; 2-7 Sio2; 2-5.5TiO2; 1-2.5Fe203 plus usual residual components. The granular material is calcined at 800-1400 deg C, comminuted to a grain size of 0.11-120 mu m and mixed with a flux before being electrolytically treated in melt form.
