Roller mill process and assembly for malt grains

A process is claimed to produce malt grains which are of a suitable consistency especially for use in thin layer mash filtration. In the process, (a) the brew maltings are subjected to roller milling (10); (b) the husks are separated from the other first-stage intermediate products (grits, meal) (15) by passing through a sieve (19); (c) the husks (23) are then subjected to further roller milling (10a); and (d) a portion of the ground husks is mixed in with meal and grits (25) and returned for the production of mash (24). Also claimed is an apparatus for carrying out the process.
