<p>A method and apparatus is provided to detect the position of an object, such as a container (48), in a target window (30) using the concept of triangulation of energy radiation. A transmitter (10) emits a pulse of energy in response to periodic clock pulses from a clock (46) which is at least partially reflected off the container (48) positioned in the target window (30) and into a receiver (12). The signal produced by the receiver (12) is checked to ensure that the energy indicative signal is synchronous with the periodic clock pulse to eliminate errant energy sources. The presence of a synchronous singal indicates the presence of an object in the target window (30) wherein subsequent action may be taken, such as dispensing a beverage and/or ice into a container (48) within the target window (30).</p> |
